Is Your Bike Ready for a New Owner?
If you have an adult bike you’re no longer riding, please email a photo or two to our Program Manager (shopmanager@sharingwheels.org) and we’ll let you know if we can put your bike to good use. We request a $5 donation with every bike to help cover the cost of refurbishing.
We generally accept:
- Good quality adult bikes: We can make them ready for a second home. We do not accept e-Bikes (see below)
- Bike parts: Of any era, as long as they are in good condition
- Bike accessories: Like bags, fenders, rear racks
- Bike tools: We can always use those!
Bikes we NEVER take…
- “Department store bike” brands: Like Magna, Roadmaster, Huffy, Hyper. These cheap bikes aren’t worth fixing if broken. An exception, we WILL take these bikes if they are in like-new condition.
- Broken or bent frames: Unless there are quality parts ON it that are worth saving
- VERY rusted bikes: Rust can’t be fixed. Send us a photo for us to verify if we can take it: shopmanager@sharingwheels.org
- E-bikes: We are NOT equipped to handle e-bikes. They take up a lot of space, need special tools that we don’t possess, and need a lot of time to refurbish them.
- Used bike helmets: We cannot verify their safety and will throw them away.
If your bike is NOT salvageable, please take it to a metal recycler (see below).

How we use donated bikes
Our staff and volunteers refurbish most bikes we receive. We give tune-ups and new parts as needed to make bikes safe and functional. We sell some bikes “as-is”.
Bike sales support all of our free and low-cost programs. Through partner nonprofits, we give some bikes to qualifying adults who need transportation, or to children in low-income families.
We are always in need of volunteers with mechanical skills to help us with the backlog of bikes. If that describes you, consider volunteering with us!
Charitable donation
We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. EIN 47-0905216.
The fair market value of bike donations is tax-deductible. We are happy to provide a receipt for your donation.
